Nintendo Expands in Southeast Asia with Singapore Unit and Thailand Plans

Nintendo, the renowned Japanese video game company, has announced the establishment of a new entity in Singapore as part of its strategy to enhance its business presence in Southeast Asia. The announcement, made on its website on September 30, 2025, reveals that Nintendo Singapore Pte Ltd has a capital stock of S$8 million and will be led by Takahiro Miura, who also serves as the CEO of Nintendo Korea. The company is also looking to set up an operation in Thailand in the near future.
This year has been significant for Nintendo, particularly with the launch of its new console, the Nintendo Switch 2. The device has quickly gained traction, selling over 3.5 million units within the first four days of its release, marking it as the company’s fastest-selling gaming device to date. Nintendo projects sales of 15 million units for the financial year ending in March 2026, reflecting strong demand in the gaming market.
Upcoming Collaborations and Movie Projects
In addition to its gaming endeavors, Nintendo is continuing its collaboration with American production studio Illumination for the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie, set to be released in April 2026. This film serves as a sequel to the highly successful 2023 release of The Super Mario Bros Movie, which made history as the first film adapted from a video game to surpass US$1 billion in box office earnings. The new film will feature familiar voices, with Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Charlie Day reprising their roles as Mario, Princess Peach, and Luigi, respectively.
Nintendo’s expansion into Singapore and plans for Thailand underline its commitment to growing its influence in the Southeast Asian market. With innovative products and successful partnerships, the company is poised for a promising future in the region’s dynamic gaming landscape.
