Meryl Streep Films Iconic Scenes for Devil Wears Prada Sequel
Meryl Streep recently reprised her role as the formidable Miranda Priestly during a fashion show in Milan, filming scenes for the much-anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. Donning Priestly’s signature sunglasses and a stylish vinyl trench coat from Dolce & Gabbana, Streep attended the event on September 30, 2023, alongside her co-star Stanley Tucci, who portrays her art director in the film.
The runway event featured a lively atmosphere, set to the music of Italian singer Patty Pravo. Throughout the show, Streep’s character engaged in conversations with Tucci, their attention focused on the models strutting down the runway. The Dolce & Gabbana press office confirmed that this scene will be included in the sequel currently being filmed in Milan.
Fans of the original film will recall a memorable moment when Anne Hathaway’s character asks, “Can you please spell ‘Gabbana?’” The setting for this new production echoes that iconic scene, providing a nostalgic touch for audiences.
Fashion Trends on Display
The Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2026 collection showcased during the runway featured a playful take on nightwear. Highlights included cozy men’s pyjamas adorned with rhinestones and embroidered details, as well as elegant black sheer and lace lingerie. These styles were artfully layered with jackets made from leather, brocade, and animal prints, creating a striking visual impact.
Footwear options varied from eye-catching stilettos to comfortable fuzzy slippers, while the accessory of choice was a soft, furry bag, ideal for a cozy evening out. The designers took a moment longer than usual during their customary bow, allowing the audience to appreciate the fashion spectacle.
As the show concluded, Streep and Tucci were swiftly escorted backstage, where they left the runway open for the fashion crowd to capture photos of this unique moment in the industry.
The Fashion World’s Influence
In an intriguing twist of life imitating art, Vogue’s global editorial director, Anna Wintour, was seated across the runway from Streep. Wintour’s influence inspired the original film, adding another layer of significance to this fashion event.
The sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is set to be released in spring 2024, promising to bring back the glamour and wit that made the original a beloved classic. As filming continues, anticipation builds for what will undoubtedly be another captivating chapter in the world of high fashion and cinematic storytelling.
