DJ Hazelle Teo Faces Rental Car Challenge During Swiss Shoot
When Yes 933 DJ Hazelle Teo and her fiancé, local pianist and content creator James Wong, arrived in Switzerland for their pre-wedding photoshoot, a significant oversight quickly turned their idyllic plans into a logistical challenge. The couple discovered, upon landing, that neither of them had brought their driving licenses, an error that nearly derailed their plans for a picturesque road trip.
On September 15, 2023, Teo shared details of the incident on her Instagram account, revealing the couple had already paid approximately S$960 (around US$750) to rent a vehicle. To cancel the reservation due to their oversight, they incurred a penalty fee of S$300 (approximately US$235). Initially, they believed their International Driving Permits would suffice, but local regulations proved otherwise. Teo expressed their dismay, noting, “We were very upset with ourselves for forgetting our driver’s licence. A first-world problem, but we are too pampered in Singapore.”
The complications did not end there. In addition to the rental car penalty, the couple spent another S$1,534 (about US$1,200) on two Swiss travel passes, which allowed unlimited travel by train, bus, and boat. This meant they could efficiently transport themselves and their seven bags, which included two wedding gowns, two suits, shoes, and other essentials for the shoot. “But wah! 1.5K for two pax is like!” Teo remarked, using an emoji to emphasize her disbelief.
In total, the couple faced a setback of approximately S$2,000 (around US$1,565) due to the combination of penalties and travel expenses. Despite the financial strain, Teo chose to focus on the positives of their situation. She praised the efficiency of the Swiss train system, describing it as a “blessing in disguise.” Teo appreciated the ease of traveling between locations and noted how the train compartments were designed to accommodate luggage, allowing them to relax and even catch up on work without the stress of driving.
Rather than allowing the inconvenience to dampen their spirits, Teo highlighted the supportive atmosphere between her and Wong. After Wong reassured her that their love was more important than the money spent, she reflected, “Why did I even get mad in the first place? It is just money, not like we lost each other. At least we are still journeying through this together.”
The couple announced their engagement earlier this year on the radio, where Wong called in to share his successful proposal story. Their experience in Switzerland, while challenging, has added another memorable chapter to their journey together.
