Shari Redstone Takes Charge as Chair of Israel’s Sipur Studio

Media executive Shari Redstone has been appointed as chair of Sipur, an Israel-based entertainment studio known for producing impactful content. The announcement was made on Tuesday, marking a significant new chapter for both Redstone and the production company, which is acclaimed for its award-winning documentary, “We Will Dance Again,” and the Netflix feature “Bad Boy.”
In her new role, Redstone will collaborate with Sipur’s co-founders, CEO Emilio Schenker and Gideon Tadmor. Her investment in the studio aligns with contributions from Tadmor and Israeli institutional investors, including Bank HaPoalim and Clal Insurance. This financial backing underscores the studio’s commitment to storytelling that not only entertains but also fosters dialogue and societal change.
Redstone expressed her enthusiasm in a statement, highlighting Sipur’s dual focus on producing high-quality commercial content while driving meaningful conversations. “Not only does Sipur produce high-quality commercial content, the team also brings to life stories that drive conversation, impact and change,” she noted. This vision is central to Sipur’s business model, which emphasizes creating high-end productions on modest budgets through partnerships with international companies. Since its establishment in 2019, this approach has enabled Sipur to expand its reach and influence rapidly.
Earlier this year, Redstone completed the sale of Paramount Global to Skydance Media, effectively ending her tenure as chair of Paramount and the family-run National Amusements. Her decision to sell was significant, given her long-standing attachment to the studio, which her late father, Sumner Redstone, acquired in 1994.
Sipur continues to make strides in the film industry, recently announcing strategic investments in multiple projects that debuted at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals over the past two weeks. These developments reflect Sipur’s ambition to become a notable player in the global entertainment landscape.
As Redstone steps into her new leadership role, her extensive experience in media and production is expected to enhance Sipur’s portfolio and drive future growth. The combination of her vision and the studio’s innovative model positions Sipur for continued success in a competitive industry.
