The Asia Medical Week (AMW) and the Asia Medical Innovation and Development Forum 2025 took place from September 12-13, 2025, in Bali, Indonesia. This event convened healthcare leaders from across Asia to foster collaboration and resilience in the sector. With a focus on collective action to tackle shared healthcare challenges, AMW 2025 adopted the theme “Bridging Nations, Healing Futures.” The summit was hosted by the Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Hospital, alongside other prominent regional institutions.

The event featured participation from Mindray, a global leader in medical devices and solutions, which acted as a supporting partner to promote dialogue among key stakeholders. Budi Gunadi Sadikin, the Minister of Health of Indonesia, emphasized the country’s commitment to developing a robust healthcare system that meets international standards. “Our goal is to transform from a country where people often seek treatment abroad into a nation capable of delivering adequate health services at home,” he stated.

Key Initiatives and Collaborations

One of the significant outcomes of AMW 2025 was the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing institutional collaboration between hospitals in Indonesia and China. This initiative reflects a broader goal to elevate medical cooperation across Asia.

Mindray highlighted its strategic priorities during the forum, focusing on Smart Healthcare, Talent Development, Research and Innovation, and Medical Industry Empowerment. These pillars align with Indonesia’s health transformation agenda, particularly underlining the importance of local capacity-building and advanced medical technologies.

The company’s partnerships with institutions like Siloam Hospitals Group and Mayapada Healthcare have already resulted in improved connectivity between critical hospital departments, enhancing patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency.

Tackling Specialist Shortages and Advancing Knowledge

Indonesia currently faces a significant shortfall of healthcare specialists, producing only 2,700 new specialists annually, while the ideal target is 32,000. To address this gap, Mindray introduced its “Project 2025,” which includes the establishment of 14 ultrasound schools across Southeast Asia, including in Indonesia. This initiative aims to train over 1,000 young physicians in critical fields such as obstetrics and urology.

During AMW 2025, Mindray also announced a collaborative effort with Jakarta’s Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) to publish the Southeast Asia Consensus Statement on Pelvic Floor Ultrasound Standardization. This document aims to harmonize diagnostic practices across nearly 20 hospitals in the region, raising care standards and promoting a unified approach to treatment.

Mindray’s commitment to local production has also been a focal point. Since 2022, its factory in Kendal, Central Java, has been instrumental in producing essential medical equipment, including syringes and infusion pumps. In September 2025, the company opened a second facility in Indonesia, dedicated to manufacturing ventilators and anesthesia machines, further supporting the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.

“Building a truly resilient healthcare system requires more than the technology we continue to build. It demands the integration of people, knowledge, and local capacity,” said Zaiwen Li, Senior Vice President of Mindray. His remarks underscored the importance of collaborative efforts among governments, hospitals, and communities to create an inclusive healthcare landscape.

The Asia Medical Week 2025 not only served as a platform for sharing knowledge but also reinforced the critical need for cross-border partnerships in the healthcare sector. With a focus on resilience and innovation, the event aims to chart a path forward for healthcare in Asia.
