UPS has announced significant improvements to its intra-Asia air network, aiming to facilitate faster and more reliable trade across the Asia Pacific region. These enhancements, revealed on September 16, 2025, are designed to support businesses as they seek to expand their reach amid growing regional demand in sectors such as healthcare, technology, and automotive manufacturing.

Wilfredo Ramos, president of UPS Asia Pacific, emphasized the company’s commitment to helping customers navigate the evolving global trade landscape. “We continue to see strong momentum across Asia Pacific with intra-Asia trade staying resilient,” he stated. The upgrades are intended to provide businesses with enhanced flexibility and connectivity, allowing them to grow confidently in a dynamic environment.

Increased Flight Capacity to Australia

A key component of the network enhancements is the expansion of UPS’s direct flights between its intra-Asia hub in Shenzhen, China, and Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport in Australia. This route now operates five times per week, increasing capacity significantly through UPS’s browntail network. As a result, delivery times from major Asian markets—including China Mainland, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam—to Australia have improved by one day, now taking just two business days. For those with Friday pickups, next-business-day delivery is available.

Additionally, exports to major Asian markets and imports from Europe will now arrive one day earlier, which is expected to enhance Australian businesses’ ability to access critical goods like pharmaceuticals and specialized components for machinery and automobiles.

Upgrades to Hanoi–Shenzhen Route

In response to increasing demand, UPS has also upgraded its Hanoi–Shenzhen route by deploying larger Boeing 747 freighters, effectively doubling weekly cargo capacity to 570 tons. This enhancement aims to support the burgeoning demand for goods from Vietnam to various markets, including China Mainland, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand. Customers in Vietnam can now benefit from next-business-day deliveries to both China Mainland and Hong Kong SAR.

These developments follow other recent investments by UPS in the Asia Pacific region, including the enhancement of delivery capabilities through a new facility in Senai, Malaysia, and expanded services from the Kyushu region in Japan. UPS’s ongoing investment in its smart global network and logistics solutions aims to assist customers of all sizes in optimizing their supply chains.
