Singapore Condemns Israel’s Airstrikes on Qatar as Sovereignty Violation
Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has condemned Israel’s recent airstrikes on Doha, labeling them a “blatant violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty. The strikes, which occurred on September 9, 2025, were described by an MFA spokesperson as an “egregious and dangerous action” that jeopardizes ongoing negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.
In a formal statement, the MFA expressed strong support for Qatar amidst escalating tensions in the region. “This is an egregious and dangerous action that undermines ongoing negotiations on a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza, as well as Qatar’s tireless efforts to secure such an agreement,” the spokesperson said. Singapore’s support underscores its position on international law and respect for national sovereignty.
The airstrikes were reportedly aimed at eliminating political leaders of Hamas, marking a significant escalation in Israel’s military operations within the region. Qatar responded to the airstrikes by condemning them as “cowardly,” asserting that the actions represent a flagrant violation of international law. This response highlights Qatar’s role as a mediator in the ongoing conflict, where it has collaborated with Egypt to facilitate dialogue between Israel and Hamas.
Regional Implications and Security Partnerships
Qatar holds strategic importance in the Middle East as a security partner of the United States and is home to al-Udeid Air Base, the largest US military facility in the region. As a mediator, Qatar has been actively involved in discussions aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, which has become increasingly elusive amid rising hostilities.
The recent airstrikes raise concerns about the stability of diplomatic efforts in the region. With Qatar’s involvement in negotiations, the airstrikes could further complicate the situation, hindering progress toward a peaceful resolution. The international community is now closely monitoring the developments, as the potential for escalated conflict looms.
Singapore’s condemnation of the airstrikes reflects a broader commitment to uphold international norms regarding sovereignty and conflict resolution. As tensions continue to heighten, the global response to such military actions will be pivotal in shaping the future of diplomatic relations in the Middle East.
