South Korean Rapper Lee Young-ji Eyes Global Collaborations and Coachella

South Korean rapper Lee Young-ji has expressed her aspirations for international collaborations and her dream of performing at Coachella. Known for her engaging personality and musical talent, Lee has rapidly established herself as a prominent figure in the entertainment industry since winning the 2019 season of the reality competition series High School Rapper.
At the recent Waterbomb Singapore festival, Lee showcased her trademark energy during an interview with CNA Lifestyle. Reflecting on her journey since her debut, she noted, “It has been a long journey since I debuted in High School Rapper 3. I really upgraded. I did my upgrade as a human being and as an artiste.” Her evolution has seen her navigate various challenges and develop a deeper understanding of her musical identity.
Lee’s music often explores themes of relationships and personal growth. “Most of my music is about relationships, but it can also be about inner and outer peace,” she said. Recently, she has sought inspiration from classic films, particularly those that resonate deeply with Korean audiences. “Watching them now, I learn so much as a fellow creator,” she explained.
The 23-year-old artist is eager to experiment with different genres and is particularly focused on defining her unique sound. She expressed her desire to collaborate with notable international artists including Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, SZA, and Doja Cat. “Before they retire, I hope I can grow my career and music enough to collaborate with them,” she stated, highlighting her ambition to secure her place in the global music scene.
Preparing for her first overseas Waterbomb festival, Lee admitted to feeling apprehensive about the crowd’s enthusiasm for water-based antics, reminiscing about past experiences in Korea where the crowd’s exuberance was overwhelming. Despite her nerves, she is excited to connect with the audience in Singapore, saying, “I feel really excited and thrilled right now.”
Lee hopes that audiences will remember her performances as powerful and engaging. “I really want them to think that I am a great performer,” she remarked. Each stage presents an opportunity for her to introduce herself and her music to new audiences, a chance she values greatly.
In her downtime, Lee embraces relaxation in her own way. “I pretend to be dead on my couch and on the floor sometimes! I don’t do anything. Just feeling useless and letting my body rest,” she shared. This balance between work and leisure is essential for her, allowing her to recharge before diving back into her busy schedule.
As she looks ahead, Lee Young-ji is committed to her artistic journey. “I’ll keep making better music, performing harder, and growing bigger,” she concluded, inviting fans to follow her progress. Viewers can catch her latest appearances in Earth Arcade 3, now streaming on Viu.
With her vibrant personality and relentless ambition, Lee Young-ji is poised to leave a lasting impact on both the Korean and global music landscapes.
