Singapore Launches Largest Dinosaur Exhibition on October 11
Dinosaur enthusiasts in Singapore can look forward to an extraordinary experience as the Science Centre Singapore prepares to unveil its largest dinosaur showcase to date on October 11, 2023. Titled “Dinosaurs, Extinctions, Us,” the exhibition will feature an impressive collection of 33 rare fossils and 60 full-scale models spread across a vast area of 3,000 square metres.
This major event is a collaborative effort between the Science Centre Singapore and the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum of the National University of Singapore. The exhibition will consist of two main segments, each housed within three interactive zones aimed at engaging visitors in the fascinating world of dinosaurs and extinction events.
Exhibition Highlights
In the “Dinosaurs Of Patagonia” zone, guests will encounter a full-scale cast of the magnificent Patagotitan mayorum, recognized as one of the largest dinosaurs to have ever roamed the Earth. Additionally, the “Six Extinctions” segment will showcase over 30 displays that highlight some of the most catastrophic extinction events in Earth’s history.
Among the exhibition’s standout features is Scotty, the largest known Tyrannosaurus rex specimen discovered to date. The showcase aims to not only entertain but also educate visitors about the realities of extinction, including species that have disappeared closer to home. The Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum will present examples from its collection, such as the extinct cream-coloured giant squirrel and the rufous-collared kingfisher, both of which are no longer found in Singapore.
Ticket Information
Tickets for “Dinosaurs, Extinctions, Us” will go on sale starting September 1, 2023, through the official website of the Science Centre Singapore. Pricing has been set at S$25.90 for children and S$29.90 for adults for Singaporeans and permanent residents. For general admission, the rates are S$35.90 for children and S$39.90 for adults.
This exhibition promises to be a significant cultural event, drawing in families, students, and dinosaur lovers from around the region. More than just a display of prehistoric life, “Dinosaurs, Extinctions, Us” aims to provoke thought and discussion about extinction and its implications for the present and future.
