Director Ashwin Kumar Enlists Sam C S for Epic Animation Score

In a significant move for the burgeoning Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, director Ashwin Kumar has selected Tamil music director Sam C S to compose the score for his animated film, Mahavtar Narsimha. The film is set to premiere on July 25, 2023, showcasing a blend of traditional and modern musical elements.

Choosing the Right Composer

Ashwin Kumar expressed his admiration for Sam C S’s work, particularly his background score for the Tamil film ‘Jada’. He noted that this score captivated him and led him to believe that Sam was the right fit for the ambitious project. “I have been a musician myself and if I had not been making films, I would have been a choreographer or musician,” Kumar stated. His extensive background in music has influenced his decision-making regarding the film’s auditory landscape.

The director elaborated on the creative process involved in selecting a composer, stating, “When I was looking for a music composer, I went through the works of a lot of musicians. When I went through Sam’s discography, I heard the OST soundtrack of ‘Jada’ and was mesmerized. I realised that there was only one person who could do justice to this film, and that was him.” Reaching out to Sam, the team presented approximately sixty to seventy percent of the film’s visuals, allowing the composer to grasp the film’s wide-ranging musical requirements.

A Unique Musical Spectrum

The score for Mahavtar Narsimha is expected to encompass a diverse musical palette, integrating orchestral music, traditional Indian shastric music, and modern film compositions. Kumar highlighted the film’s need for a “world musical spectrum,” noting the involvement of various international elements, such as the use of Digi2 technology from Australia.

In an interview, Sam C S shared insights into his creative process for this project, stating, “For this film, I needed six months. That is the most I have taken for composing music for any film. Since this is an animation film, they would come to me with a rough anime. I would score music for it, and then they would take it back to refine the animation further.” This collaborative approach underscores the intricacies involved in creating a cohesive animated feature.

Mahavtar Narsimha is produced by Shilpaa Dhawan, Kushal Desai, and Chaitanya Desai under the Kleem Productions banner. The film will initially be released in five Indian languages and in 3D, targeting both domestic and international audiences.

Looking ahead, the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe aims to chronicle the ten divine avatars of Lord Vishnu, with Mahavtar Parshuram scheduled for release in 2027, followed by Mahavtar Raghunandan in 2029, and so forth, culminating with Mahavtar Kalki Part 2 in 2037. This ambitious project is poised to entertain audiences for over a decade, making significant waves in the animation landscape.
