A cement truck overturned in Chinatown, Singapore, on July 19, 2023, resulting in the hospitalization of its driver. The incident occurred around 17:00 local time along Eu Tong Sen Street as the truck “self-skidded” while heading towards Hill Street, according to the police.

Emergency services, including the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), responded promptly to the scene. The driver, a 52-year-old man, was conscious when taken to Singapore General Hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that he is currently assisting with ongoing investigations into the accident.

The police noted that this incident is part of a broader concern regarding road safety in the area. Earlier in May, more than 80 heavy vehicle drivers received summonses for various traffic offenses, including speeding, using mobile devices while driving, and failing to display speed limiter labels visibly. This highlights the need for increased vigilance among drivers to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

As investigations continue, officials are expected to review traffic management and safety protocols in Chinatown to mitigate risks associated with heavy vehicle operations.
