Loh Kean Yew Falls to Thai Rival in Indonesia Masters Semifinals

Singapore’s badminton player Loh Kean Yew faced a surprising defeat in the semi-finals of the Indonesia Masters on January 24, 2024. Competing against Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul from Thailand, Loh lost with scores of 17-21, 17-21, ending his run in the tournament.

Entering the match as the favourite, Loh was ranked 10th in the world, significantly higher than Panitchaphon’s 44th position. Loh had previously defeated the Thai player in both of their prior encounters, setting the stage for high expectations. However, Panitchaphon showcased remarkable resilience, taking control of the first set midway through and maintaining his advantage throughout the match.
