Fatal Highway Incident in Malaysia Claims Two Lives After Crash

A minor car collision escalated into a tragic fatality on the Federal Highway in Malaysia early on the morning of January 20, 2024. The incident occurred around 04:20, when a black Honda HR-V rear-ended a black Proton Suprima. Both drivers exited their vehicles to assess the damage, but within moments, the situation turned catastrophic.

According to local authorities, a silver Mercedes-Benz, driven by a 31-year-old man, lost control while approaching the crash site. The car struck the group of individuals who had stepped onto the road to inspect their vehicles. This shocking moment was captured in a 33-second video shared widely on social media.

Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol of the district police stated, “It is understood that three victims had exited their vehicles and were standing on the road before they were struck by a Mercedes-Benz, which was reportedly unable to avoid them.” The impact resulted in the deaths of the driver and passenger of the Honda, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims, a 50-year-old man and his female passenger, were identified as friends. An autopsy revealed that both died from severe head and body injuries due to the collision, as reported by The New Straits Times. Meanwhile, the driver of the Proton Suprima and the driver of the Mercedes sustained serious injuries and were transported to Shah Alam Hospital.

The driver of the Mercedes was reported to have suffered a broken leg. Following the incident, Malaysian police collected blood and urine samples from him for chemical analysis, and officials are currently awaiting the full toxicology report to determine if substances were involved.
