Authorities are investigating 147 cases of gastroenteritis among students at North View Primary School in Singapore. The affected students, who exhibited symptoms starting from January 13, have largely recovered as of January 18, according to a joint statement from the school, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), and the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA).

One student was hospitalized on January 17, but was discharged the following day in stable condition. The school, located at 210 Yishun Avenue 6, has been proactive in reaching out to affected students and their parents, committing to ongoing monitoring of the students’ health.

Health Authorities Respond and Implement Precautions

In collaboration with the SFA and CDA, North View Primary is currently investigating the outbreak. The school has implemented several precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of its students. These include thorough cleaning and sanitizing of all classrooms and common areas as well as minimizing large gatherings within the school.

Additionally, students have been reminded to practice good personal hygiene and to remain at home if they feel unwell. This incident marks the second significant outbreak of gastroenteritis in a primary school within a week, raising concerns among health officials.

Authorities are also looking into 60 cases of gastroenteritis reported by students from River Valley Primary School, where symptoms began surfacing on January 14. Notably, River Valley Primary is one of 13 schools that recently adopted a new central kitchen meal model, with its canteen operated by the caterer Gourmetz.

The quick response from health officials highlights the importance of monitoring food safety and hygiene within educational institutions. As investigations continue, both schools are working closely with health authorities to ensure the well-being of all students and to prevent further outbreaks.
