IEEE Honors 2026 Medal Recipients Transforming Technology

The 2026 IEEE Medal recipients are a diverse group of pioneers, each with unique achievements.

Luis von Ahn, co-founder of Duolingo and inventor of CAPTCHA, receives the IEEE Frances E. Allen Medal sponsored by IBM. His innovations have not only secured internet infrastructure but also expanded access to education for millions worldwide.

Scott J. Shenker of UC Berkeley is honored with the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal for his foundational work in computer networks, which supports modern cloud computing and data center design.

The IEEE Jagadish Chandra Bose Medal in Wireless Communications is awarded to a team from Ericsson, including Erik Dahlman, Stefan Parkvall, and Johan Sköld, for their leadership in developing LTE and 5G standards that have transformed global communications.

In healthcare, Rosalind W. Picard of MIT receives the IEEE Medal for Innovations in Healthcare Technology for her pioneering work in affective computing, enhancing mental health care through innovative technologies.
