The JN.1 Novavax/Nuvaxovid COVID-19 vaccine will be made available at selected general practitioner (GP) clinics in Singapore from January 2, 2026, until May 31, 2026. This initiative is part of the national vaccination programme aimed at providing an alternative to the existing LP.8.1 Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, which were introduced in October 2025.

According to the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA), both the JN.1 Novavax and LP.8.1 vaccines are expected to enhance protection against severe illness due to COVID-19. Previously, the Novavax vaccine was offered at select GP clinics until April 30, 2026, after receiving approval from the Health Sciences Authority for individuals aged 12 years and older.

Eligibility and Recommendations for Vaccination

The CDA emphasizes that individuals who have not received an additional COVID-19 vaccination dose in the past 12 months are encouraged to consider the JN.1 Novavax vaccine. Immunity to the virus can wane over time, and receiving an additional dose in 2025 or 2026 can significantly bolster protection against severe disease. This recommendation applies to anyone who has previously received either the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or Novavax JN.1 vaccines in 2024 or 2025.

Those opting for the JN.1 Novavax vaccine as a supplementary dose should ideally do so around one year, but at least five months, from their last vaccination. Appointments for vaccinations can be booked starting January 2, 2026, and individuals are urged to receive the vaccine before the supply expires after May 31, 2026. Following this date, the JN.1 vaccine will no longer be available under the national vaccination programme, although the LP.8.1 Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines will continue to be offered.

Ongoing Vaccination Efforts

As part of Singapore’s national vaccination programme, COVID-19 vaccinations remain free for all eligible individuals. The CDA warns that waves of COVID-19 will likely continue, potentially resulting in severe illness among older adults and those with underlying health conditions. The agency encourages everyone, especially those aged 60 years and above, to stay updated with their vaccinations, similar to the recommendations for influenza immunization.
