Nottingham Forest Files Complaint Over Refereeing in Man City Match
Nottingham Forest has lodged a formal complaint with the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) regarding the officiating during their recent 2-1 defeat against Manchester City in the Premier League. The club reached out to PGMOL on December 30, 2023, seeking the audio from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) used in the match, according to reports from British media.
Following the match, Forest manager Sean Dyche expressed his dissatisfaction, particularly concerning the 83rd-minute goal scored by Rayan Cherki. Dyche argued that the goal should have been disallowed due to a foul on Morgan Gibbs-White during the build-up play. He also contended that Manchester City defender Ruben Dias should have received a second yellow card for a foul on Igor Jesus earlier in the second half.
The incident has heightened tensions as Nottingham Forest currently sits just above the relegation zone in 17th place in the Premier League standings. The club’s action reflects their ongoing concerns about the consistency of officiating in key matches.
As of now, Nottingham Forest has not provided further comments outside of regular business hours in the UK. The club’s complaint underscores the growing scrutiny on match officials in the Premier League, particularly with the use of VAR technology, which has been a topic of debate among players and fans alike.
The outcome of this complaint remains to be seen, but it highlights the intense emotions surrounding match officiating in the top tier of English football. As teams strive for vital points in the league, any perceived injustices can significantly impact their season’s trajectory.
