Bruno Fernandes Aims for Swift Recovery but Misses Key Match
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes is diligently working towards a quick recovery from a hamstring injury but has been ruled out of the upcoming Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to manager Ruben Amorim. The match, scheduled for December 29, 2023, will see United aiming to secure another victory following their recent win over Newcastle United.
Fernandes had a strong performance earlier this month, contributing three goals and two assists over two matches. His momentum was abruptly halted when he suffered the injury during United’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on December 21. Despite his absence, Amorim highlighted Fernandes’ commitment to the team, noting that he actively participates in training discussions even while undergoing treatment.
Fernandes’ Leadership Remains Strong
Amorim expressed admiration for Fernandes’ leadership qualities, stating, “He’s the guy that is watching training even after treatment. I don’t know if he wants my job or not, but he’s a leader.” He emphasized that Fernandes continues to communicate with his teammates, reinforcing his role as captain, even when sidelined.
Despite Fernandes’ efforts, Amorim confirmed that he will not be available for the Wolves match, asserting, “No chance he is going to play against Wolves.” United will also miss the services of other key players, including Kobbie Mainoo, Matthijs de Ligt, and Harry Maguire, due to injuries, while Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo, and Bryan Mbeumo are participating in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Wolves Present a Unique Challenge
As Manchester United prepares to face Wolverhampton, who currently sit at the bottom of the league with twelve consecutive losses, Amorim urged caution. He recalled Wolverhampton’s near draw against league leaders Arsenal earlier this month, where they were defeated due to an own goal in added time.
“They showed against Arsenal they could get at least one point. So in the Premier League, you never know,” Amorim remarked. He acknowledged that both teams are dealing with their own challenges but emphasized the necessity of securing a win. “We need to win, we will try to win the game,” he added, as United looks to solidify their position in the league standings.
As the calendar year comes to a close, Manchester United aims to capitalize on their recent momentum and build on their performance against Newcastle, striving for a positive outcome against a struggling Wolves side.
