Honeywell Faces $470 Million Charge Due to Flexjet Lawsuit Settlement
Honeywell announced on December 22, 2023, that it anticipates a substantial one-time charge of approximately $470 million in the fourth quarter. This financial impact is linked to a potential settlement regarding litigation with private aviation company Flexjet. Following this news, Honeywell’s shares fell by 1.3 percent in premarket trading.
The lawsuit, initiated by Flexjet in March 2023, claims that Honeywell breached an agreement concerning aircraft engine maintenance services. Flexjet is seeking liquidated damages, citing delays in engine repairs that continue to accumulate monthly. The company asserts that these damages are tied to engines still awaiting necessary maintenance.
Financial Outlook Adjusted Amid Settlements
In light of the ongoing legal issues, Honeywell has revised its full-year financial outlook. The industrial conglomerate now estimates adjusted profits for 2023 to fall between $9.70 and $9.80 per share, a decrease from its earlier forecast of $10.60 to $10.70 per share. This revision reflects the potential financial strain stemming from the Flexjet settlement.
Additionally, Honeywell plans to categorize its Advanced Materials unit as discontinued operations starting in the fourth quarter of 2025. This decision follows the successful spin-off of Solstice Advanced Materials, indicating a strategic shift in the company’s focus and operational structure.
The developments involving Flexjet and Honeywell highlight the complexities of the aviation sector, particularly in the context of service agreements and operational efficiency. As companies navigate these challenges, stakeholders will be closely monitoring the financial implications of such legal disputes.
