Trump Awarded Inaugural FIFA Peace Prize for Global Mediation Efforts
On June 7, 2025, US President Donald Trump was honored with the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize during a ceremony held in Washington, D.C. The award, presented by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, recognizes Trump’s “extraordinary” contributions to promoting global peace and unity. Infantino emphasized that the prize celebrates individuals who demonstrate a steadfast commitment to fostering peace through notable leadership.
During the official presentation at the FIFA World Cup draw, Infantino remarked, “What you have obtained in your way. But you obtained it in an incredible way.” He outlined Trump’s achievements in mediating international conflicts, stating that the award serves to highlight those efforts on a global stage.
Trump expressed gratitude for the recognition, calling it “truly one of the great honors of my life.” He underscored his mediation efforts, which include facilitating a ceasefire to end the conflict in Gaza, addressing tensions between India and Pakistan, and brokering agreements between Thailand and Cambodia. Additionally, he reported on his successful negotiations for peace deals involving Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Trump also highlighted his intervention to halt a 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran in June 2025, which included missile and drone strikes. He claimed that his actions “decimated” Iran’s nuclear program, further asserting his role in easing disputes between Serbia and Kosovo, and between Egypt and Ethiopia.
This award marks a historic moment, as it is the first time FIFA has presented a peace prize to an individual. Trump’s receipt of this accolade coincides with his ongoing ambitions to secure a Nobel Peace Prize for his mediation efforts around the world.
The FIFA Peace Prize acknowledges the significant role of sports, particularly football, in uniting diverse communities and fostering dialogue. Infantino reiterated this sentiment, stating, “Football unites the world,” and underlining the importance of such initiatives in addressing global conflicts.
As the international community continues to navigate complex geopolitical landscapes, Trump’s recognition by FIFA serves as a testament to the potential impact of diplomacy and negotiation in resolving disputes. The award not only celebrates past achievements but also aims to inspire future efforts toward global peace and cooperation.
